Northstar Privacy Policy ✦
Last updated: August 12, 2026
Northstar ("we," "our," or "the app") is a personal goal-tracking application. This page explains what information we collect, how it's used, and the choices you have. We've written it in plain language on purpose — if anything is unclear, you can always reach out using the contact info at the bottom.
What we collect
When you create a Northstar account and use the app, we collect:
- Account information: your name and email address, provided either directly or through Google Sign-In.
- Goals and onboarding answers: the dream-life descriptions, preferences, and answers you provide during onboarding, which we use to generate your personalized goals.
- Daily and weekly check-ins: which intentions and milestones you mark complete, and on what dates.
- Dream board photos: any images you choose to upload as inspiration.
- Chat messages: conversations you have with Northstar's AI companion feature, stored so your conversation history persists between sessions.
- Product feedback: the feeling, category, and optional message you choose to submit through the feedback form.
- Limited usage information: content-free interaction names such as opening a screen, completing an intention, closing the day, or installing the app. This information can include your Northstar account ID so we can understand whether the app is helpful over time. These events never include your goal titles, reflections, photos, or AI conversations.
- Google Calendar access: only if you explicitly choose to connect your calendar. Northstar requests the
calendar.events.owned permission to create your routine as events on your primary Google Calendar and to remove only the events Northstar created. Northstar does not read, modify, or delete unrelated calendar events, and it does not access calendars you do not own.
How we use your information
Your information is used exclusively to operate and improve Northstar for you. Specifically:
- To generate your personalized goal cascade, daily routine, and AI-driven suggestions.
- To power the chat companion feature, using relevant context about your goals so responses are genuinely helpful.
- To create your optional yearly recap, generated from your own check-in history.
- To let you sign in and access your own data securely.
- To understand where Northstar feels helpful or confusing and improve the experience.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not show ads. We do not share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
Who we share data with
Northstar relies on a small number of trusted service providers to function:
- Supabase: our database and authentication provider, which securely stores your account and app data.
- Anthropic: the AI provider whose models generate your personalized goals, routines, and chat responses. Relevant content (such as your onboarding answers or chat messages) is sent to Anthropic's API solely to generate these responses, through a secure server-side connection that never exposes any credentials in the app itself.
- Google: if you choose to sign in with Google or connect Google Calendar, Google processes the relevant authentication or calendar data according to its own privacy policy. Google Calendar data is not sent to Anthropic or another AI provider.
These providers act only on our behalf to deliver the app's features — they do not independently use your data for their own purposes beyond what's necessary to provide their service to us.
Google API Limited Use Compliance
Northstar's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Northstar does not use, transfer, or disclose raw, aggregated, or derived Google Workspace API data to train, develop, or improve generalized or foundational artificial intelligence or machine learning models. Google Calendar data is used only to provide the calendar feature expressly requested by the user and is not sent to Anthropic or any other AI provider.
When Northstar creates a calendar event, it stores the event's Google-generated identifier locally on the user's device so the user can later remove that specific Northstar event. Northstar does not store Google Calendar event content in its database.
Data storage and security
Your data is stored using Supabase's secure infrastructure with row-level security, meaning your account's data is only accessible to you. All connections between the app and our servers are encrypted. API credentials are stored server-side and are never exposed in the app's code.
Your choices and rights
- You can edit or delete individual goals, photos, and habits at any time directly within the app.
- You can disconnect Google Calendar access at any time from within the app or from your Google Account permissions page.
- You can request a full export or deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us using the information below.
Children's privacy
Northstar is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
